Chiamaka Nnadozie bolsters Brighton's ambitions with historic transfer
Brighton and Hove Albion Women FC have secured a major coup with the signing of Nigeria’s celebrated goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, a move set to elevate the club’s ambitions in the Women’s Super League (WSL).
The 24-year-old, hailed as one of Africa’s finest talents, will join the on July 1, 2025, following the expiration of her contract with Paris FC, pending standard regulatory approvals, the club announced on Friday.
Dario Vidosic, head coach of Brighton’s women’s first team, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “We’re thrilled to welcome to the club. She’s a talented and commanding goalkeeper who will bring consistency and confidence to our defensive line.”
He highlighted her proven track record, noting, “She has competed at the highest level, with valuable experience in a variety of cup competitions including the Champions League. We’re confident she’ll add both depth and drive to a squad already full of ambition as we continue to build for next season.”
Nnadozie’s illustrious career began with Rivers Angels in Nigeria, where she played a pivotal role in securing the Nigeria Women’s Premier League title in 2019 and lifting the Nigeria Women’s Cup three times.
Her performances earned her the prestigious IFFHS Africa’s Best Woman Goalkeeper award in 2019. Since joining Paris FC in January 2020, Nnadozie made 118 appearances, cementing her reputation with a standout performance in the 2025 Coupe de France Féminine final.
“She saved two penalties against Paris Saint-Germain to help secure the title,” the club statement recalled, underscoring her clutch performance under pressure.
Her European tenure included 16 appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League between 2022 and 2025, showcasing her ability to perform on elite stages.
In 2024, Nnadozie made history as the first African to be named UNFP Division 1 Féminine Goalkeeper of the Season, alongside winning the D1 Arkema Best Goalkeeper and UNFP Goalkeeper of the Season awards. These accolades reflect her technical prowess and growing influence in global women’s football.
On the international stage, Nnadozie has been a cornerstone for Nigeria’s Super Falcons, earning 55 caps since her senior debut against France in April 2018. Her experience at the Under-17 and Under-20 levels further highlights her pedigree.
As Brighton prepares for the 2025–26 WSL season, Nnadozie’s arrival signals the club’s intent to compete at the highest level.
