Chelle Explains Omission Of Lookman, Osimhen From Unity Cup Squad

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has shed light on his decision to leave out key players Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman from Nigeria’s squad for this year’s Unity Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Chelle stated that the exclusion was intentional, aimed at creating opportunities for emerging talents to showcase their potential.

Nigeria is set to face West African rivals Ghana on May 28 as the tournament kicks off.

The coach has called up 10 players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and also handed veteran forward Ahmed Musa a chance to reestablish himself in the national team.

“We have a lot of talented players in Nigeria, and it’s important to give them the chance to prove themselves,” Chelle told NFF Media.

“We’re working on a long-term project to build an identity for the team, and that requires integrating players who can adapt quickly and contribute.”

He added, “The Unity Cup provides a good platform to test new players and tactics as we prepare for upcoming competitions, especially in September.”
