Business magnate and leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, made a generous GH¢500,000 bid on a gold bar during the Mining in Motion Gala Dinner at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City on Monday in support of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s ongoing community development and water restoration efforts.
In a stirring address before placing his bid, Cheddar emphasised the long-standing damage caused by irresponsible mining and the need for urgent intervention.
“It’s not about the price; it’s about the cost. This money is going towards the losses of our country, the pain and struggles we’ve endured while mining for centuries. What should have built us has instead destroyed our lands and poisoned our waters.
“For this very moment for our king, Otumfuo, to initiate such a charitable move to restore and develop our nation, it is my privilege to support the cause,” he stated in a video shared via X
The high-profile gala formed part of the Mining in Motion conference, which runs from June 2 to 4, 2025, and brings together key stakeholders, policymakers, and industry experts to deliberate on the future of mining in Ghana and across the African continent.
The conference aims to promote sustainable mining practices, environmental protection, and the equitable distribution of resources.
