The Governor-General of Sistan-Baluchestan has emphasized the importance of the Chabahar railway, which he described as a vital route linking southeast Iran with both the tourism industry and the national economy. This railway is part of a larger national effort to boost infrastructure and economic development in the region. Focused on the railway’s potential to drive positive change in this underdeveloped area, especially in terms of tourism, employment, and trade.

During his visit to the Chabahar rail projects, the Governor-General pointed out that the railways along the Oman Sea coast do more than just facilitate transportation. They act as a conduit for tourists, investments, and economic growth, helping to bring much-needed capital into the southeast of the country. He described the project as a bridge that fosters connectivity and provides a pathway for sustainable development. According to him, the Chabahar railway is central to the region’s ambitions to become a leading destination for both domestic and international tourism.

The Chabahar-Zahedan railway, in particular, has been carefully planned to meet the logistical and economic needs of the region. Its completion will enable the transformation of Chabahar into a prime destination for tourists and investors alike. The Governor-General noted that the region’s strategic location, combined with the development of the railway infrastructure, will open up new avenues for growth. He envisions Chabahar not just as a commercial port but also as a major hub for the tourism industry along regional markets, with increased transit potential.

He also highlighted the broader implications of the project for regional prosperity. A recent decision following the President’s visit to the province allocated 260,000 billion rials (approximately \$35.8 million) in funding to accelerate the completion of the project. The project, spanning 628 kilometers, will link Chabahar to Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchestan. This connection is seen as a key element of the north-south transportation corridor, which has the potential to enhance Iran’s export capacity and transit capabilities.

The Chabahar railway’s connection to the ports is also a significant priority for the Iranian government.
