Doohan made his debut for his country in the friendly against Liechtenstein in Vaduz earlier this month due to a raft of injuries and kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 victory.

The 27-year-old, who received a late call-up from manager Steve Clarke after Angus Gunn and Robby McCrorie suffered injuries, loved representing his country for the first time.

The man who made 18 appearances for Aberdeen last term and picked up a Scottish Cup winner’s medal is keen to retain his place in the national squad going forward.

He knows that getting a start at Celtic ahead of Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo will be a tall order during the 2025/26 campaign.

However, Doohan is optimistic that being at the Scottish champions will work in his favour when the opening World Cup qualifiers against Denmark and Belarus away come around in September.

(Image: Colin Mearns) “I always thought there was a chance I could get in when I played the few games last year,” he said. “I got a good amount of game time last season and I thought it would put me in good stead.

“Then when I got the call during the summer to come and meet up with the squad for the Lichtenstein game midway through my holiday, I dropped everything I could, packed my case and then just got the first flight back to Glasgow so I could meet up with the squad.

“It's just given me that drive. I don't want it to be a one-and-only cap. I want to get called up more and hopefully get more caps in the future.
“Any game for Scotland would be exciting to be involved in. Getting called up to your country is a great honour. But I'm looking forward to the World Cup qualifiers. If I get called up, I'd be absolutely buzzing with it.”
Asked if he thought he could get called upon by Scotland even if he is behind Schmeichel and Sinisalo in the Celtic pecking order, he said, “Yes, it could be a possibility, but I believe I could do it, I need to back myself and we'll just need to see what happens in the future.”
