Celtic-bound Kieran Tierney scores on Arsenal farewell

Published 1 week ago2 minute read

Kieran Tierney signed off on his Arsenal career with a goal as he gets ready for a dream homecoming at Celtic.

Ahead of reuniting with Brendan Rodgers this summer, the 27-year-old was handed a start at centre-back in the Gunners' final game of the season against Southampton.

He would be hoping to bow out in style after six years in North London and he did just that by opening the scoring after 43 minutes. Ben White raced down the right hand side to latch onto a through ball and provided the cross for Tierney to divert goalward with his weaker right foot.

The Hoops hero was clearly delighted and it showed in his celebration while the Arsenal fans would then serenade the player they took to quicky after his £25million move in 2019.

That gave the Gunners a lead heading into half-time but it would be cancelled out by a fellow Scot when Ross Stewart scored for Saints.

Tierney will now enjoy a break before joining up with his Celtic teammates for pre-season over the summer ahead of a season in which Rodgers hopes he will help the club fare better in the Champions League.

And after the disappointment of yesterday's Scottish Cup final defeat to Aberdeen, a treble will no doubt be on his wishlist too.
