Cabinet Offers Condolences as Flooding Claims Lives in Eastern Cape
Eastern Cape communities, particularly in Mthatha, have been left devastated following severe flooding on 11 June 2025. The disaster has caused widespread destruction, leaving many residents homeless and grappling with the loss of loved ones.
In response to the tragedy, Cabinet has extended its sympathies to the families affected. During a post-Cabinet briefing held in Cape Town on Thursday, Minister in The Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, confirmed that 57 lives have been lost as a result of the extreme weather conditions. The floods have also displaced numerous families and caused significant damage to infrastructure across the region.
Government has acknowledged the gravity of the situation and is urging South Africans to remain cautious as adverse weather is expected to persist. Authorities have warned of a range of conditions including plummeting temperatures, snowfall, strong winds, and heavy rainfall in various parts of the country.
The public is encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property during this period of heightened weather-related risk.
