The deceased members died following a tragic accident that occurred on the evening of 6 April 2025.
Nicholus Abil, one of the family members, said they were unable to shoulder the burial expenses and also cater for the hospital bills of those who survived the accident and were admitted.
“We need at least KSh 3 million for the treatment of those who were hospitalised, the mortuary bill, and burial preparations,” he said.
Abil called on Budalangi Member of Parliament Raphael Wanzala to help them raise the amount, as attempts to fundraise had proved futile.
Another relative, Dorcas Egesa, explained that the deceased man and his immediate family had cared for her and ensured she received any medical help she required.
“I feel like my hope is gone. I am not whole again with their death. I was shocked because what happened is very tragic. I am sad that I have lost people who have been taking care of me and paying for my treatment,” said Egesa.
The crash occurred on Siaya-Nyadorera Road near Uranga, when a private vehicle rammed into an oncoming school bus after a lorry, allegedly being driven recklessly, hit it from behind.
The private vehicle was carrying family members who were headed to the village from Nairobi.
The victims include Robert Odembo Oluoch, a prominent businessman in Budalangi, his two children, their housemaid, and another relative who died on the spot.
Oluoch’s wife and three other children sustained serious injuries following the crash and were rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital.
