The lawmakers argue that Wanyonyi's development record and empowerment initiatives in Nairobi and his home county make him a good fit to succeed Lusaka.
They are Bumula's Jack Wamboka, Martin Wanyonyi (Webuye East), John Waluke (Sirisia), John Chikati (Tongaren), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), John Makali (Kanduyi), Kabuchai's Majimbo Kalasinga and Fred Kapondi of the Mt Elgon constituency.
Excluded was Kimilili's Didmus Barasa, who had been regarded as the top gun in the race.
"We want Bungoma to be led by someone with a clean track record, and that person is Timothy Wanyonyi. His leadership style, his vision and his work in empowering youths through investment in Bungoma speak for themselves," said Sirisia's Waluke, who chairs the Western MPs Parliamentary caucus.
The lawmakers have scheduled a meeting with the ward representatives from across Bungoma to solidify their resolve.
