BritBox Australia Unveils Major Content Expansion
BritBox Australia has announced a significant expansion of its streaming service, offering subscribers more British content than ever before.
Nearly five years after launching in the Australian market, the platform is evolving with hundreds of hours of new content and three exclusive curated linear channels designed to enhance the viewing experience.
The expanded service now features numerous exclusive series including “Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero,” “Outrageous,” “Fear” and “Death Valley.” These join new seasons of popular returning shows like “Shetland” and “The Bay,” alongside established favourites such as the award-winning period drama “Call the Midwife” and detective series “Death in Paradise.”
Moira Hogan, Executive Vice President of International Markets and General Manager of BritBox Australia, explained the platform’s evolution: “This exciting new chapter for BritBox Australia features an expanded slate of exclusive UK shows and genre collections advancing our objective to be the best curators of British television, offering our customers more thoughtfully organised collections.”
The refreshed platform includes an improved user interface making content discovery easier, alongside three new expertly programmed channels. These allow viewers to switch between watching shows on a streamed channel or on-demand. Technical improvements include enhanced viewing quality and increased download limits for offline viewing.
“Our customers told us they wanted more — more of the latest series, more quality dramas, comedies and mysteries, as well as more variety across genres,” Hogan noted. “Our team has crafted a user experience that combines the best of on-demand viewing with a curated channel experience.”
June marks the first major content drop for the expanded service, featuring the highly anticipated premiere of “Shetland” Season 9, which returns with a new missing person case.
Also premiering is “Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero,” starring Angelica Huston and Matthew Rhys, which has already received acclaim overseas. Comedy fans can look forward to “Mandy” from “Cunk on Earth” star Diane Morgan, while documentary enthusiasts will appreciate additions like Blue Planet,” “The Hunt” and “The Planets.”
The three new streaming channels include BBC First, focusing on high-quality drama from gripping crime thrillers to period pieces; BBC Entertain, delivering comedy, drama and lifestyle content including quiz shows like “Richard Osman’s House of Games”and “Would I Lie to You?”; and BBC Select, featuring documentaries with presenters such as David Attenborough, Brian Cox and Michael Mosley exploring nature, science, travel and human stories.
