Brewers 10, A's 0: Jacob Misiorowski has his best start of spring with three perfect innings - Yahoo Sports

MESA, Ariz. – This was as comfortable as Jacob Misiorowski has looked on the mound this spring.

The rest of the Milwaukee Brewers didn’t seem too shabby, either.

In his third start of Cactus League play, Misiorowski retired all nine batters he faced and struck out three as the Brewers cruised to a 10-0 win over the Athletics at Hohokam Stadium.

“Felt good. Felt like everything was really timed up,” said Misiorowski, who had battled inconsistency through his first two outings, which totaled three innings and four runs allowed. “Little wild but it worked. Sometimes that helps a little bit.”

BOX SCORE: Brewers 10, Athletics 0

Misiorowski is almost certainly going to open the year in Class AAA, where he will get his first look as a starting pitcher at the highest level of the minor leagues, so this spring isn’t about battling for a roster spot.

What does matter is getting a taste of what it’s like to be a big leaguer – and also throwing as many strikes as possible while doing it.

Top Brewers pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski threw three perfect innings with three strikeouts against the Athletics on Thursday night.

“He’s a great prospect,” manager Pat Murphy said. “He’s got a lot to learn. I like the kid. I like his demeanor. He’s got to learn a little bit about preparation and a big-league game. But his stuff certainly plays and it’s great to see him build confidence.”

The stuff certainly played against the A’s, who played in their home ballpark in front of a heavily-partisan Brewers crowd as support for their franchise has wavered since taking their team out of Oakland at the end of last season.

Misiorowski’s best work came in the bottom of the first against Athletics all-star Brent Rooker. After falling behind in the count, 3-1, the right-hander hit the top of the zone with a fastball for a strike before ripping off a slider for a swinging strikeout of the A’s slugger.

“Some days it’s a little wild and you kind of spray a little bit and now you spot one up and all of sudden the hitter is like, ‘Oh s—' he actually has it,’” Misiorowski said. “Some days it works, some days it doesn't. It just is what it is.”

The Brewers continued to run at will, swiping five bases in the first five innings. A double steal by Caleb Durbin and William Contreras led to a run when catcher Shea Langeliers’ throw skipped into shallow left field in the first.

Garrett Mitchell drove in a pair with two RBI singles to highlight the offense’s performance.

Behind Misiorowski, the Brewers trotted out a litany of their top relief arms. Trevor Megill threw a a scoreless fourth, Jared Koenig by striking out three in the fifth and Elvis Peguero followed with a perfect sixth.

That set the stage for one of the stars of the spring, Craig Yoho. The 2023 eight rounder threw two perfect innings, striking out four, keeping his ERA at 0.00 this spring with nine punchouts and two base runners allowed in five innings.

Cooper Pratt started at shortstop and lined a run-scoring single. He’s accrued 14 at-bats already this spring.
