will release new album ‘Freak Out City’ on August 15th.

The New Zealand songwriter rose to fame as part of comedic duo Flight Of The Concords, writing some of their wistful, infectious, and often hilarious ear-worms.

Along the way, however, he’s also written other material – songs that come straight from the heart, channelling influences such as Randy Newman and Harry Nillson.

2022 album ‘Songs Without Jokes’ acted as a debut offering, a reset – now something new is on the horizon.

‘Freak Out City’ is his next step, and it was developed while performing live across New Zealand and the United States with his eight-piece band The State Highway Wonders.

, the record was ecorded in both Los Angeles and New Zealand, the album was co-produced by Bret and his long-time collaborator, Mickey Petralia.

New single ‘All I Need’ is a softly beguiling introduction, with Bret commenting:

This is a love song for my wife, Hannah. We’ve been together a long time. We always love each other, but let’s be honest, there are days we love each other more than other days. This song was from one of those days when we were especially in love.

Tune in now.
