This includes inspectors and rank-and-file officers holding first degrees, master’s degrees, and doctorate degrees (Ph.D), as well as those with approved study postings.

The Nigeria Police Force has directed all its commands nationwide to submit lists of officers with advanced academic qualifications as part of preparations for a promotion exercise.

This includes inspectors and rank-and-file officers holding first degrees, master’s degrees, and doctorate degrees (Ph.D), as well as those with approved study postings.

Commands in Jos, Kano, Ikeja, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Oji-River, Enugu, and other locations have been instructed to comply immediately.

In a wireless message dated 15 May 2025 and obtained by SaharaReporters, the police authorities said, “The Intelligence Police directs, as a matter of urgency, that you send a list of all officers — inspectors and rank-and-file — currently serving under your command who hold doctorate degrees (Ph.D).”

It further stated, “Additionally, please forward information regarding officers with approved postings for study, including those with first degrees, master’s degrees, and Ph.D certificates.”

All information must be submitted on or before Friday, 30 May 2025, the message added. It concluded by urging recipients to “Please treat this request as very important.”

The order is aimed at ensuring that officers with academic qualifications are properly recognised in the promotion process.

The memo, with reference number DTO: 151249/05/2025 reads; “FROM: NIGPOL FORSEC ABUJA

“TO: AIGPOLS STAFFPOL JOS / POLAC KANO / DEPPOLS IKEJA / KADUNA/MAIDUGURI /OJI-RIVER / DETCOL

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had earlier reported that how the Nigeria Police Force also announced a Special Departmental Selection Board exercise for Inspectors who were recruited in 2000 and have not yet been promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

A document dated May 5, 2025, and signed by AIG Fom Pam Joseph, the Force Secretary, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, announced the long-overdue move.

The directive, which was sent to all Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police across 17 zones, Commissioners of Police nationwide, and Commandants of all police training institutions, instructs that the interview exercise be conducted between May 19 and May 30, 2025.

SaharaReporters had also reported how some disgruntled officers of the Nigeria Police Force raised the alarm over what they described as a systemic exclusion of grassroots officers from career progression in the force, following the cancellation of the Advanced Studies Command (ASCON) programme.
