A brand new centre back target has now been named as Chelsea’s priority in a breaking news report coming out this morning.
There is a lot going on this week in the aftermath of the first summer transfer window closing on Tuesday night ahead of the Club World Cup.
Chelsea failed to sign Mike Maignan and Jamie Gittens after being in talks, but there are other situations ongoing right now, such as the future of Trevoh Chalobah, who is wanted by Napoli this summer.
There was also a report out earlier in the week detailing the stats that prove Chelsea should have, and still can, sign Maignan from AC Milan this summer simply because he’s a big upgrade.
Chelsea continue to be linked with winger Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao and there was a report out yesterday even suggesting that they are now in a three way battle with Arsenal and Bayern Munich to sign him.
However, this move has always felt very unrealistic due to the fact he will be on big wages and it will not fit in Chelsea’s structure.
We haven’t heard much on new Chelsea defender links for a while and we were surprised Chelsea didn’t target one before the Club World Cup. But it looks like a new one is still on the agenda.
A Bola in Portugal (as seen in the image above) is reporting that Benfica defender Tomás Araújo is Chelsea’s priority target for the central defender position. He has a release clause of €80million.
They also want to re-sign Joao Felix so I’m sure something could be done to suit both sides here.
