Bourke Focuses on Wet-Track Performers

Molly Bourke is leading the Sydney apprentice premiership as the season progresses, with 22 city wins. She surpassed Zac Lloyd's previous mark of 21 wins, but faces competition from Braith Nock (20 wins) and Zac Wadick (19 wins). Bourke hopes that favorable track conditions, specifically soft tracks and potential rain, will aid her in maintaining her lead, especially with senior riders potentially absent for interstate feature meetings.

Bourke acknowledged the competitive environment and expressed her aspiration to maintain her lead. She noted her success in securing rides during the Autumn Carnival and anticipates increased opportunities with the departure of senior jockeys. She believes the wet tracks provide an advantage, particularly with her claim.

Braith Nock has several opportunities with mounts like Insist and Eraantyva on Friday, and Akaysha, Massira, Zealously, and Lonhro’s Queen on Saturday. Molly Bourke also has several rides with potential, especially if the tracks remain soft. Her rides include Photographics, a favorite in the Midway Handicap, despite a minor setback. She also rides So Dazzling.

Bourke is also scheduled to ride Asgarda, the 2024 Country Championship winner, and Casual Connection, who performs well on wet tracks.

In related news, the racing community is mourning the death of Happy Clapper, a three-time group 1 winner, at the age of 14. The Pat Webster-trained gelding had a successful career, winning the Epsom Handicap, Doncaster Mile, and Canterbury Stakes, and earning $3.7 million in prizemoney.
