Who are the two prospects Boston acquired?

Tibbs, a 22-year-old power-hitting outfielder, is the big-name prospect the Red Sox acquired in the deal. The 6-foot, 201-pound left-handed hitter was the 13th overall pick in the 2024 Draft out of Florida State. He was selected one pick after Boston drafted Braden Montgomery 12th overall. (Montgomery did not play a game in the Red Sox system. Boston traded him to the White Sox in the Garrett Crochet trade Dec. 11.)

Baseball America had Tibbs ranked the Giants’ No. 3 prospect.

Tibbs was batting .246 with a .379 on-base percentage, .478 slugging percentage, .857 OPS, 12 homers, 10 doubles, one triple, 32 RBIs, 41 runs, 42 walks and 45 strikeouts in 57 games (256 plate appearances) for High-A Eugene this season.

He has an impressive 16.3% walk percentage and 17.9% strikeout percentage.

His Baseball America scouting report entering 2025 noted, “More important than the total production, Tibbs also slashed his strikeout rate from 31.7% as a freshman (at Florida State) to 10.5% as a junior. In doing so, he solidified himself as one of the best pure hitters available in the 2024 draft. The Giants believe in Tibbs’ bat-to-ball skills, as well as his abilities to pick up spin and quickly separate balls from strikes. Now, he needs to learn when to pick his spots to unleash his best swings.”

MLB Pipeline had Tibbs ranked the Giants’ No. 4 prospect and wrote, “Tibbs offered one of the best combinations of swing decisions and hard contact in the Draft. He has a smooth left-handed swing with plenty of bat speed and strength, giving him solid power to all fields. While at Florida State, he closed the holes he once had against breaking pitches, shrunk his strikeout rate from 32 percent as a freshman to 12 percent as a junior and boosted his walk rate from 12 percent to 18 percent.”

Neither Baseball America or MLB Pipeline had Bello ranked in the Giants’ Top 30.

The 20-year-old righty from the Dominican Republic has made eight relief appearances in the Arizona Complex League this season. Bello, who’s listed at 6-foot-1, 164 pounds, has allowed four earned runs in 18 innings (2.00 ERA). He has 28 strikeouts and three walks. Opponents are batting .156 against him.

San Francisco signed him as an international amateur free agent Jan. 15. 2023.

Kyle Harrison also is a young arm

While not a prospect anymore, Harrison, 23, was Baseball America’s No. 26 overall prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 23 overall prospect entering 2024.

He has split time this season between the Giants and Triple-A Sacramento. He has a 3.46 ERA (26 innings, 10 earned runs) in six starts for Sacramento. He has a 4.56 ERA (23 ⅔ innings, 12 earned runs) in eight outings (four starts) for the Giants.

His four-seam fastball has averaged 95.1 mph in the majors this year and opponents are batting 11-for-63 (.175 batting average) with a .213 expected batting average against it.

The Red Sox have optioned Harrison to Triple-A Worcester.
