The Borno State Police Commissioner, Naziru Abdulmajid, has issued a firm warning to officers against corruption, human rights abuses, and other unethical conduct, emphasising the importance of professionalism in tackling the state’s security challenges.

Speaking to over 180 police officers in Maiduguri, Abdulmajid, who recently assumed office, outlined his vision for a professional, intelligence-led, and community-oriented policing approach.

He stressed that this strategy would address the state’s unique security concerns, including insurgency and kidnapping in Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.

“Under my watch, this command will implement a professional, intelligence-led, and community-oriented approach,” Abdulmajid said. He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering peace and security in the state, adding, “I am here to serve with dedication, fairness, and an unwavering commitment to peace and security.”

The commissioner praised the resilience of the people of Borno, acknowledging the complexities of the security landscape. He pledged to strengthen collaboration with sister security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders, civil society organisations (CSOs) and the media to maintain and build on progress made against crime and terrorism.

Abdulmajid highlighted the importance of community involvement in security efforts, urging residents to cooperate with the police by sharing trustworthy information to tackle insecurity effectively.

He stated, “Security is a collective responsibility,” underlining the crucial role of public support in achieving a crime-free state.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to visibility policing, aimed at enhancing public confidence and deterring criminal activities.

To his officers, Abdulmajid reiterated the importance of professionalism, discipline, and adherence to the core values of the Nigeria Police Force. He charged them to remain steadfast in creating a safe and secure environment where all residents of Borno can live and thrive peacefully.
