BOLO for black pickup driver that fled after causing fireball crash with tanker truck in Columbus
Police in Columbus are searching for a motorist in a black pickup truck after they fled the scene of a fireball crash with a tanker truck on Sunday.
The accident happened on June 22nd on the Northeast Side of Columbus, Ohio at 1:39 p.m. on the ramp from southbound Interstate 270 to eastbound State Route 161.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, the black pickup truck slammed into a tanker truck hauling fuel, pushing it into the guardrail. The tanker truck then overturned, sparking a fireball crash. The black pickup truck driver then drove east on State Route 161 without stopping to check on the truck driver.
The tanker truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. The details of their injuries are not known.
Smoke from the fireball wreck could be seen for miles, but firefighters were able to contain the flames shortly after arriving at the crash scene. The area was closed to traffic for hours as investigators and clean up crews worked at the scene.
