Benni McCarthy was appointed as Harambee Stars' head coach in March on a two-year contract. The South African brought his confidantes Josephs, Vasilis Manousakis (assistant) and Pilepa Mimosa (performance analyst) to serve in his technical bench.

But less than three months into their reign, there have been murmurs that they could leave their Harambee Stars role and return to South Africa.

McCarthy has been linked with the soon-to-be vacant role at Orlando Pirates. Jose Riveiro will leave the Buccaneers at the end of this season after opting not to renew his contract.

An X profile by the name Africa Soccer Updates reported on Saturday evening that McCarthy will return to South Africa.

"African Soccer Updates has been informed that Benni McCarthy is likely to cut short his stint with the Kenyan national team for a big job in the South African Premier League."

Josephs reacted to questions from fans who wanted to know whether the reports were true. In one response, the former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper denied hearing the reports but admitted it could be amazing.

"Nothing member, 1st time hearing…but would be amazing tho."

Fadlu Davis has been linked with returning to Orlando Pirates. Currently at Tanzanian giants, Davids spent three years with the Bucs.

Celebrated Pitso Mosimane, Miluten Sredojovic and Carlos Nodar Paz are the other names that have been floated.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has also been named, but Josephs, a Pirates legend, poured cold water on those links.

"If we’re looking at wanting to bring him back to Orlando Pirates, as good a coach as he is, why would we put on old shoes again? Why would you go back again? From what I can remember, when he was by us, there were a whole lot of issues, there were tantrums, our supporters weren’t too happy as well," as captured by IOL.

Despite the rumours, McCarthy, Josephs and the rest of the technical bench will be getting ready for the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN), which they will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.

In a related report, Harambee Stars assistant coach Vasilis Manousakis explained why he joined McCarthy in Kenya.

Manousakis left his role as an assistant coach at Cape Town Spurs when McCarthy approached him to be part of his technical bench in Kenya.

The wo have previously worked together at Amazulu and Cape Town City.
