Amazon MGM has released the first trailer for The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and J.K. Simmons. The film serves as a follow-up to the original 2026 film, with most of the cast returning. Gavin O’Connor is back to direct as well as Bill Dubuque to write the script.
In the trailer, we see Addai-Robinson’s Marybeth Medina reluctantly go to Wolff for help after her boss is mysteriously killed. In order to get to the bottom of the conspiracy, Wolff must team up with his brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to figure out what’s really going on.
The Accountant 2 is planned to receive a full theatrical release on April 25, 2025. The previous film grossed $155 million at the global box office, so it will be interesting to see if a sequel 9 years later can repeat success. Last year, two other blockbuster sequels hit theaters with a 9-year gap since the last film. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was critically praised but flopped the box office, while Moana 2 received middling reviews but made over $1 billion at the global box office. The Accountant does not have the same popularity as Moana or Mad Max, but there is always an appetite for action. Plus, the star power of Ben Affleck may be enough.
The Accountant 2 lands in theaters in a bit of a crowded Spring. One week prior, the Ryan Coogler film Sinners releases, and then a week after we get another action film in Marvel’s Thunderbolts*.
