Years before they made their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts, Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie starred in the war movie The Hurt Locker together. The film will be streaming for free on Tubi beginning March 1.

Renner starred as Sergeant First Class William James in The Hurt Locker, alongside Mackie as Sergeant J.T. Sanborn. As their tour of duty continues, the group faces increasingly hazardous situations as their lives hang in the balance. who drew on his experience as a journalist embedded with troops and bomb squads during the Iraq War.

Lionsgate Sets Release Date for New Jason Statham Action Movie

Jason Statham's next film after this year's A Working Man has gotten a release date from Lionsgate.

The Hurt Locker debuted at the 2008 Venice International Film Festival and was released in theaters in 2009. . Renner and Mackie's performances in particular are widely considered a strong point of the film, with Renner receiving nominations for his performance at the Academy Awards, BAFTAs and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The Hurt Locker was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won six - including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. . In 2020, it was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry for its significance.

After The Hurt Locker, both Renner and Mackie went on to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Renner playing Clint Barton / Hawkeye and Mackie portraying Sam Wilson / Falcon. The movie was released on Feb. 14 as part of Phase Five of the MCU and has started off strong at the box office, already surpassing $200 million worldwide.
