In a ruling on Wednesday, February 12, Wetang'ula said records from the Registrar of Political Parties confirm Kenya Kwanza Alliance holds the majority position in the House.
The announcement upset Azimio Members, who walked out of the National Assembly while threatening to align with former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
Some Azimio MPs were seen angrily urging their colleagues to leave the National Assembly in protest of Wetang'ula's decision.
The MPs including Suna East MPJunet Mohamed, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino were seen leading their counterparts outside.
"Let's go. We are going to Wamunyoro village tomorrow very early in the morning," Amisi said.
The MPs later moved to the press room, where they addressed the media, voicing their opposition to Wetang'ula's announcement.
“We disagree with the speaker’s ruling, but as Azimio, we will adhere to legal avenues,” said Odhiambo.
