Auto chief calls for policy reform in sector

Managing Director of Lanre Shittu Motors, Taiwo Shittu, has dedicated his Auto Icon award to his late father, founder of the company, Alhaji Rasaki Shittu.
Shittu, who spoke shortly after receiving the plaque at Eko Hotel, Lagos, venue of the awards, appreciate his other siblings for trusting him to run the business empire of the family.
Taiwo said: “I will dedicate the award to my late father. He was visionary and groomed us to stand on our own…”
On future plans of the company, he said besides consolidating on its brand, the firm intended to open the first phase of its bigger auto assembly plant in Ogun State this year.
He called on the government to ensuring that National Assembly passes the auto policy into law, noting “to win any investors, you must guarantee their investments. And you can only give that by a well-articulated policy signed into law”.
Shittu, who said his firm identified with President Bola Tinubu’s policy on CNG, added “the special waiver for CNG and electric vehicles should be extended to other auto assembly plants.
“Extending the waiver to the plants will see reduction in prices of locally assembled vehicles by 17.5 per cent. This will make more dormant assembly plants to become vibrant…’’
It will also create job opportunities for a large number of people in Nigeria.”
