Australia gears up for icy cold weather on King Charles III’s birthday weekend, check forecast

is set to witness cold and chilly weather conditions as the country braces itself to celebrate the King Charles III’s Birthday public holiday on Monday, June 9, 2025. The celebration is set to take place in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. Other regions like Queensland and Western Australia will mark the occasion later in 2025.

As the weekend approaches, the majority of the country bundles up for chilly conditions, thunderstorms, widespread rain, hail and snow. With the cold weather tightening its grip across several parts, millions are waking to icier than normal conditions.

As far as Queensland is concerned, the residents witnessed a cool start on Friday with temperature settling around 11 degrees in morning and even cooler in suburbs including Gatton and Ipswich.

Sydney saw similar conditions where residents woke up to a chilly 7 degrees in the city and 1 degrees in the western suburbs.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Jonathan How said the cold front would stick around for the long weekend, stretching across Victoria, Tasmania, and southern NSW. “It will be very windy as well,” he said, according to news website news au.Besides windy conditions, a band of rain is predicted which is likely to soak the southeast coast on Friday and over the weekend. South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania are likely to bear the brunt.

According to 9 News, weather conditions in Melbourne are chillier with temperatures dropping as low as 6 degrees on Monday. Top temperatures will be 15 on Saturday, 13 on Sunday and 14 on Monday. Rainfall is expected throughout the weekend, with a prediction of up to 20mm for Saturday ahead of lighter showers on Sunday and Monday.


In Adelaide, conditions are likely to remain similar to Melbourne with temperatures topping out at 16 degrees on Saturday, before seeing a further dip to 13 on Sunday, and 14 on Monday. The region is set for another three rainy days, again with the heaviest downpour of up to 20mm expected on Saturday.


Hobart is set to witness three days with tops of 14 degrees. The Bureau of Meteorology is however forecasting lows of 7 degrees on Saturday, 5 on Sunday, and 9 on Monday, according to 9 News. Tasmania is gearing up for showers this weekend, with Hobart likely to fall up to 20mm on Monday.

As far as Australia’s capital city Canberra is concerned, the weather could drop to freezing on Monday, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecast to reach as low as zero degrees.

Tops of 12 for Saturday are as warm as gets, falling to 10 degrees for Sunday and just 9 for Monday. Light rain is likely in the area throughout the weekend.

In the Northern Territory, Darwin is most likely to witness a warmer long weekend with temperatures topping out at 31 on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and only reaching a bottom of 20, 9 News reported. The days are predicted to be mostly sunny, with some clouds on Sunday and Monday.


Although Brisbane did not get the public holiday on Monday, it is anticipating some decent weekend weather, according to 9 News. The weather conditions in the region will range from sunny to partly cloudy, with temperatures reaching the early to mid 20s.

Besides Brisbane, another non-holidaying capital is Perth which is also looking at sunny conditions on both Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will top out in the early 20s.
