Auburn Secures Major Transfer Portal News After Historic Season

Published 3 weeks ago2 minute read

There was absolutely no doubt that Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers had a season to remember in 2024–25. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament Final Four but came up short against conference rival Florida in San Antonio. It was just the second trip to the final four in program history.

Now, Pearl and his staff are working tirelessly to navigate the NCAA transfer portal. With the portal remaining open until Tuesday, Auburn continues to be one of the most active programs in all of college basketball.

On Saturday, the Tigers received major news that will bolster their roster for the 2025–26 season. Joe Tipton of On3 Sports reported the big transfer development: "BREAKING: Auburn has landed a commitment from top D2 transfer Elyjah Freeman, he told @On3sports."

Freeman, a native of Wellington, Florida burst onto the scene at Lincoln Memorial University during the 2024–25 season. He was named South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year and earned first-team All-Conference honors.

Freeman made his first visit to Auburn on April 11.

The forward chose the Tigers over a trio of other SEC powerhouses that heavily pursued him in the transfer portal- Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky were also on his list of suitors.

When Freeman begins the season with the Tigers, he will have three years of eligibility remaining. Last season, he averaged 19.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, while shooting an impressive 46.3% from three-point range.

There has been plenty of talk about Auburn starting five new players when the season opens up. Fortunately for them, they have been able to lure some quality talent to replace those that departed.

Keyshawn Hall leads that list. Hall comes to Auburn from Central Florida. KeShawn Murphy, out of Mississippi State, is also heading to Auburn, along with Emeka Opurum and Kevin Overton.
