Barcelona capped off their La Liga season in style with a 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.

The first half was a showcase of Barcelona’s clinical edge. Despite an early scare when Berenguer crossed for Gomez to head past Pena in the fifth minute, only to see the flag raised for offside, it was the visitors who struck.

Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Fermin Lopez slipped a delightful pass through the Bilbao defence for the Polish striker, who coolly dinked the ball over Simon for his 26th goal of the season.

Three minutes later, Lewandowski doubled Barcelona’s lead. A Raphinha corner was flicked on by Gomez and fell kindly to the striker at the goal line, where he nodded home his second of the night.

Athletic Bilbao, though valiant, lacked the clinical finishing needed to trouble Barcelona. They did create opportunities though. Williams jinked past defenders and shot just over in the 9th minute, and Sannadi’s effort was deflected wide by Araujo just before the break.

The second half saw Barcelona maintain their dominance, with a comfortable 74% possession. Williams cut inside and fired wide early on, but Bilbao’s attacks became increasingly desperate.

Sancet and Inaki Williams came on to inject energy, yet they found little joy against Barcelona’s defence.

In contrast, Barcelona looked a constant threat on the break. Lewandowski nearly had his hat-trick in the 59th minute, denied only by a brave block from Berchiche.

Yamal was also lively, curling an effort just past the post in the 68th minute after a clever dummy from Olmo.

The third goal arrived deep into stoppage time and capped off a dominant display. Berchiche’s late tackle on Olmo was initially waved away but was overturned by VAR, handing Barcelona a penalty.

Dani Olmo stepped up and rifled his spot-kick past Simon to make it 3-0, his 10th La Liga goal of the campaign and Barcelona’s 102nd of the season.
