ASI suspended after cybercrime 'culprits' get bail
Dumka: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the cybercrime branch was suspended on Thursday evening for his failure to submit a chargesheet against three men who were arrested in March this year on charges of committing cyber fraud. On March 9, Masaliya police arrested the trio, Aslam Ansari, Imamuddin Ansari, and Usman Ansari, all residents of Khuntojori village, on charges of committing cybercrime. Four mobile phones and other incriminating evidence were recovered from their possession. Kumar, however, did not file a chargesheet until May 15, making the trio getting bail a simple process after the defence lawyer submitted a petition in this regard on May 16.Talking to TOI, Dumka SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar said, "A probe ordered to enquire why the chargesheet was not filed by Kumar, who was the investigating officer (IO) in the case, suggested negligence on his part. Accordingly, he was suspended on charges of dereliction of duty on Thursday." The SP said any negligence on the part of the policemen to combat cybercrime in the district will be dealt with stern action. Insiders said this was not the first time the police failed to file chargesheet in such a case.
