Published 1 day ago4 minute read

We have finally been gifted with the first footage from Hot Fuzz and Baby Driver director Edgar Wright’s remake of the Stephen King classic, . And while fans have no doubt been pouring over the surprisingly action-packed footage looking for clues and Easter eggs, there is one major cameo you definitely missed. He’s always promising that he’ll be back...

After fans quickly noticed the glorious sight of action movie icon and Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger adoring some The Running Man universe’s money (and looking very presidential while doing so), fans have since taken to social media to celebrate the cameo, with some taking it as a great sign of what’s to come in the remake.

“Already can tell the production and art design team absolutely CRUSHED #RunningManMovie. Look at their ode to 1987’s runner, Arnold Schwarzenegger!” said X/Twitter user and critic @Lulamaybelle, while @lvl99ron adds, “I was wondering when they would get around to remaking The Running Man. At least Arnold is going to be in it, as a cameo at least.”

For others, however, the questions that have since arisen are a scathing indictment of modern movies. Many are now wondering if the cameo means it’s a sequel, which is something @DWLundberg finds ridiculous; “I'm pretty sure since the new RUNNING MAN is an Edgar Wright film that Arnold's "cameo" is an in-joke and nothing more. But the fact that so many of you are saying "Does that mean this is a sequel?" or "Is the new Ben is his son?" tells me that franchises have rotted your brains.”

Starring as the protagonist Ben Richards in the 1987 original, Arnold Schwarzenegger has previously revealed what he thinks the remake could do to improve on its beloved predecessor. He told CBR last month...

"I mean, I love the idea that they're doing a sequel to Running Man, or a remake. I don't know what it's going to be, but I mean, because I always felt when we did, Running Man was one of the movies that it did, that it felt like...I think it would have been great if we would have been better prepared for this movie, if we would have had more money for this movie, and if we would have had then the visual effects, the technology of visual effects, that they have today, all of those things I wished after the movie came out. I felt like it could have been better. It was great, but it could have been better, and I think that they have a good chance now with the new Running Man to make it better. And I hope, for their sake and for my sake, I hope that they will be successful."

Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell will take the lead in The Running Man remake, which is due to sprint into theaters on November 7, 2025. Directed by Edgar Wright and counting William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Sean Hayes, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin among its supporting cast, you can check out the official synopsis below.

“In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television—a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall.”
