Apple Pushes AI-Powered Siri Upgrade to iOS 20, Delays Major iOS 19 Features.

The development delays for AI-powered Siri enhancements along with iOS 19’s major features caused Apple to extend its release schedule. The launch of Apple’s planned advanced Siri system with large language model (LLM) capabilities through iOS 19 now seems delayed indefinitely. The fast pace of generative AI development has forced Apple to experience major delays in its software releases.

Mark Gurman, who reports on Apple products, revealed through his Power On newsletter that Apple faces delays in creating its upcoming advanced Siri system. The LLM-powered Siri update was predicted to enter the market during the 2025 to 2026 timeframe through iOS 19.4 and iOS 19.5 releases. The continuous development obstacles have led Apple engineers to delay the introduction of the feature until iOS 20, which may launch in 2026. Apple has decided to skip the WWDC 2025 event showing its AI-powered Siri feature, thus generating more doubt about its AI development pace.

Siri development at Apple focuses on two main objectives, which include improving conversational skills and expanding its ability to solve complicated enquiries. The company managed to implement ChatGPT into iOS 18.2, but its native AI assistant remains unfinished. The extended development period leaves Apple less competitive because their competitors continue developing superior AI-powered assistants. The upcoming iOS 19 update contains internal system enhancements but does not introduce substantial new features.

Reports indicate that Siri development problems at Apple span beyond their voice assistant. The AI-powered features set for iOS 18.4, such as on-screen awareness, deeper in-app integration, and personal context recognition, were shifted to the release of iOS 18.5. Apple encounters difficulties in keeping up with quick AI developments across the industry through these latest setbacks. The anticipated AI transformation will take longer to develop than originally projected even though additional refinements can still happen this year.

Apple’s measured release strategy will produce a better product; however, it may make the company lag behind competitors in developing AI technology. iOS 20 will delay the release of a genuinely advanced digital assistant because it requires the full implementation of LLM Siri. Additional information regarding the refinement of Apple’s AI solutions will become available when new software versions reach release this year.
