APC's North-Central Forum woos Mutfwang despite party leaders' resistance

Published 7 hours ago2 minute read

North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has said that it is pushing for Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to join the APC due to a high-level directive.

However, the Forum’s attempt to woo Mutfwang is being resisted by some leaders of the APC in Plateau State, who believe the governor’s defection would automatically hand him the party’s structure, as well as the governorship ticket for the 2027 election.

While the Forum explained that the decision to embrace the Green Cap Movement was part of moves to bring Mutfwang to the APC, some leaders of the party in the state described the development as an anti-party activity that should attract sanctions.

Some Plateau APC leaders, therefore, called for the suspension of the Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, Saleh Zazzaga.

In a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, Zazzaga, a member of the APC campaign council in the 2023 election, hinted that the North-Central APC Forum’s campaign to bring Mutfwang to the APC is backed by the national leadership of the party.

The Forum, while warning APC leaders in Plateau State to desist from frustrating the efforts to bring Mutfwang and other prominent opposition politicians into the party, said those working against the efforts are actually the ones guilty of anti-party activities.

It, therefore, advised the executive committee of the party in Plateau State to work with Mutfwang, saying: “We advise that if there is anything they (Plateau APC executives) need to sustain the party in the state, they should align with the state government.”

The Forum equally warned those behind calls for the suspension of Zazzaga, noting that they would in the end realise that their efforts are counter-productive.

HOWEVER, in a bold push for regional equity and generational renewal, youth leaders from across the nation’s North Central Zone have endorsed veteran politician and businessman, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, as their preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement was contained in a statement by the Youth for the Actualisation of North Central President (YANCP), a fast-growing movement advocating justice, inclusion, and national unity.

Amid chants of “North Central for President,” YANCP’s National Coordinator, Ibrahim Musa, said that the move was more than political—it was a call for fairness.

“The North Central has bled, sacrificed, and stood firm at critical moments in Nigeria’s history. Yet, we remain sidelined in leadership. This injustice must end. In Dr Olawepo-Hashim, we have found the leader to champion that cause. We are tired of recycled politics,” said Musa.
