Your Forma director Takaharu Ozaki confirms that the sleeper-hit anime was inspired by a fan-favorite science fiction series.

Speaking to Anime News Network, director Ozaki recalled how reading the original Your Forma light novel series brought him right back to his comfort zone in terms of similar sci-fi stories. "When I first started reading Your Forma, I thought of typical cyberpunk stories like Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner, and The Matrix—I was thinking of cyberpunk movies from the '80s and '90s," Ozaki said. "As I read on in the novel, other works came to mind. There is a TV series called Westworld, which is all about what it means to be human," he added, before also referencing iconic films such as Kathryn Bigelow's Strange Days and 2006's French animated tech-noir thriller - Renaissance.

Fire Force Anime Studio's New Isekai Action Series Gets Crunchyroll Release Date

David Production, the studio behind JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Fire Force, has an official release date and new look for its next hit anime series.

Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Mareho Kikuishi and illustrated by Tsubata Nozaki, Your Forma premiered on ANN and BS Asahi on April 2, 2025 to largely rave reviews, earning it an average 7.8/10 review score on IMDb as of the time of writing. Per the series' official synopsis, "Your Forma, a technology developed to safeguard against viral encephalitis, has become commonplace. Officer Echika must use this invasive technology to crack cases in a world where your every sight, sound, and emotion is being recorded."

The anime features a star-studded voice cast including Kana Hanazawa in the lead role of Officer Echika Hieda, Kensho Ono as her android partner Harold W. Lucraft, Nao Tōyama as Bigga, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Fokine, Jun Fukuyama as Sozon A. Chernov, and Koichi Yamadera as Kuprian Matinovich Szubin. While the anime adaptation of Your Forma only comprises six episodes so far, there is still plenty of source material to translate for the small screen. As of now, the ongoing Your Forma light novel series consists of seven volumes, the last of which is currently awaiting an English release date.

Despite the positive response to the series and its popularity in print, Your Forma remains a relatively elusive anime, especially for Western audiences. Rather than being released through a streaming service such as Crunchyroll or Netflix, Your Forma is exclusively available through Samsung TV Plus in North America. While this doesn't mean that the series is inaccessible by any means, it does relegate it to a single niche service that many genre fans simply do not already have for themselves.

Your Forma is currently streaming on Samsung TV Plus.
