Angus Gunn to leave Norwich City as Scotland keeper set for pastures new

Published 1 day ago2 minute read

Angus Gunn is set to leave Norwich City after four years with the Canaries.

The 15 cap Scotland stopper followed in dad Bryan's footsteps by signing for the Norfolk club, and has clocked up more than 150 matches across his five seasons with the club. But he'll now be searching for a new side over the summer - despite playing 36 times this season.

Initially a part of the club's academy, Gunn returned to Carrow Road on loan from Manchester City during the 2017/18 season before joining on a permanent basis in June 2021. The goalkeeper has gone on to feature 171 times in all competitions for the club, keeping 47 clean sheets.

Championship side Norwich, who sacked head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup last week, have also confirmed that they will not be offering new deals to forward Onel Hernandez and midfielder Jacob Sorensen.

Sporting director Ben Knapper said: “Angus, Onel and Jacob have all played a significant part in our club’s history. They have been part of some very successful teams and their achievements here have been fantastic.

“I know our supporters will join me in showing our appreciation to each of the players for their efforts and contributions to the club during our final fixture of the season this weekend against Cardiff City.

“We all wish them the very best in the next steps of their respective careers. They will all be welcomed back at Carrow Road in the future.”

Gunn made his debut on March 25 against Cyprus at Hampden Park, keeping a clean sheet in a 3–0 victory for Steve Clarke's side. He went on to represent the nation at last summer's European Championships.

His fellow goalkeeper Archie Mair, on loan at Motherwell, and defender Jonathan Tomkinson - who is currently on loan at Ross County - are also being released by the Canaries.
