Andy Reid had high praise for Bears RBs coach Eric Bieniemy - Yahoo Sports
When the Chicago Bears hired Ben Johnson as their new head coach, he worked quickly to bring in well-respected names and highly experienced veterans. That includes Eric Bieniemy, who makes his return to the NFL as Chicago's running backs coach.
Bieniemy will be tasked with turning around a running game that finished 25th in production this past year. Last year, Bieniemy, a long-time assistant coach who rose to prominence with the Kansas City Chiefs, was the offensive coordinator for UCLA and now makes his return to the NFL level just one season later.
After nine seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, Bieniemy became a hot name in the coaching ranks, and despite not getting a head coaching opportunity, he did serve as offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the Washington Commanders for two seasons.
One of Bieniemy's most notable colleagues and peers is Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who spoke at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday about his former assistant coach praising the work he did with getting the most out of his players.
"All the guys became the best they could be and maximized their potenital when they were under [Eric Bieniemy]," Reid said.
Currently on the roster are running backs D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson who carried the bulk of the load in the 2024 season, albeit with disappointing performances overall. Bieniemy will not only be in charge of looking to maximize their potential but could have new talent to develop under new head coach Ben Johnson's high-powered offense he plans to bring to Chicago.
Just another one of those respected names on Johnson's staff, Bieniemy will look to have a resurgence in his return to the professional level.
