'And Just Like That' Season 3 Drops Soon! Here's Everything We Know
Whether you love the show or absolutely hate it, there’s no denying that the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That is one of those series that is forever a hot topic. From seeing Kim Cattrall's big (but short) return to Carrie and Aidan's steamy reunion, there's a lot of juicy gossip for people to talk about regarding this series, whether it's good, bad, or somewhere in between. It's honestly high time to talk about Carrie and company’s future and what viewers could most likely expect from And Just Like That Season 3. And we finally have a release date! Grab your rental — it’s time to enjoy summer in the city.
According to the show’s official Instagram account, AJLT Season 3 drops on May 29 on HBO Max. As in past seasons, the show will release one episode per week (every Thursday, to be specific). Season 3 will have 12 episodes in total, with the finale falling on August 14.
Fans of Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda have been waiting for more news about Season 3 for quite some time. Executive producer Michael Patrick King shared that Season 3 was greenlit all the way back in August of 2023, saying, “We are thrilled to spend more time in the Sex and the City universe telling new stories about the lives of these relatable and aspirational characters played by these amazing actors. And Just Like That… here comes Season 3.”
While it seems like a long while to wait, this tracks — Season 1 of And Just Like That hit the streaming platform in December 2021, and fans then waited 15 months until they could watch Season 2 in June 2023.
Obviously the show’s three big leads, Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw), Kristin Davis (Charlotte York Goldenblatt), and Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes) will all be returning to reprise their roles. The same goes for other OG members like John Corbett (Aidan), Evan Handler (Harry Goldenblatt), David Eigenberg (Steve Brady), and Mario Cantone (Anthony Marentino), who have remained crucial parts of the story — though many of us would agree that poor Steve deserves better than what he’s been given in the reboot.
Then there are newbies Sara (Che Diaz), Karen Pittman (Dr. Nya Wallace), Sarita Choudhury (Seema Patel), Nicole Ari Parker (Lisa Todd Wexley), and Christopher Jackson (Herbert Wexley), whose characters all make appearances in the trailer for Season 3, confirming we’ll get to see all our new faves again.
There’s one face notably missing, though: Sara Ramírez, who played Che Diaz, Miranda’s now ex. Variety confirmed last year that Ramírez would not be returning for Season 3 of AJLT, and that Miranda and Che’s split is very much permanent. Karen Pittman (Nya Wallace) is also not returning, Deadline reports.
We’ll also get plenty of new characters, with the series adding Mehcad Brooks (Law & Order, Mortal Kombat), Jonathan Cake (The Affair, Desperate Housewives), and Logan Marshall-Green (Upgrade, Spider-Man: Homecoming) in recurring roles. Sebastiano Pigazzi joins to play Anthony’s new love interest, Dolly Wells will do the same for Miranda.
While we got a tiny glimpse of Samantha in Season 2, it’s not likely that we’ll see her again any time soon. She spoke about it with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY in June.
“I don't think I'll ever say goodbye to Samantha,” she said. “She's like a lot of other characters that I've done over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She gave me so much, and I'm so appreciative of her.”
In 2024, Deadline confirmed that we will not be seeing Samantha return in Season 3, though of course we may get to hear from her in the occasional text or other correspondence.
While many audience members were hoping for something solid to happen between the second-chance couple, all we got was a lot of ambiguity. In Season 2, Aidan and Carrie pick out a gorgeous new apartment together, but he moves home to Virginia when his sons start getting into trouble. It’s totally not clear what their long-distance relationship will look like in the future, but it would be pretty boring if Carrie was just monogamous and happy for an entire season. We see them trying to make it work in the trailer, but Carrie saying “it’s complicated” indicates that there will definitely be some turbulence in their relationship.
Producer Sarah Jessica Parker agrees, and hinted that Carrie isn’t about to settle down.
“There's not just one borough in New York, there's a lot of boroughs. And there's a lot of interesting people in New York and specifically, there's a lot of interesting men, and I would think that Carrie is still curious enough to want to know what else is out there,” Parker told ET.
Wherever this season takes us, it’s sure to be a wild ride.
