Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of highlife music legend, Chief Mike Ejeagha, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 95.

In a condolence message released on Sunday by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, Soludo described the late Ejeagha as a deeply philosophical musician, an iconic cultural ambassador and an exemplary custodian of Igbo oral traditions.

He praised the veteran artiste’s unique ability to combine melodious highlife rhythms with compelling storytelling that resonated across Nigeria, despite being rooted in the Igbo language.

Governor Soludo highlighted Ejeagha’s timeless songs such as the iconic Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo, which he noted went beyond entertainment to educate and preserve the richness of Igbo folklore. He said the late musician’s works contributed significantly to the promotion of Nigeria’s cultural identity.

Soludo stated that Ejeagha pioneered a sound that encapsulated the essence of the Nigerian experience, adding that the music legend successfully bridged generational gaps over a career that spanned several decades.

Mourning the loss, the Governor acknowledged Ejeagha’s enduring influence on the Nigerian music scene and his role in fostering unity, joy and cultural awareness through music.

He concluded by extending heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the late musician, praying for his peaceful repose and for strength for those he left behind.

Chief Mike Ejeagha leaves behind a remarkable legacy as a voice of tradition, wisdom and musical excellence in Nigeria’s cultural landscape.
