On Saturday, February 15, the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union will be electing the new AU secretariat chairperson to succeed Chad's former prime minister Moussa Faki whose eight-year tenure ends with the election.
The election will be the climax of the ongoing 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Political analyst Joakim Wafula cautioned Raila's supporters against investing in the election with high hopes.
Wafula reminded the politician's supporters of the instances in Kenya where Raila seemed to stand high chances of winning the presidency only to flunk at the last minute.
"By now, anyone supporting Raila Odinga might be a wiser fan of him. Right now, they should have learnt not to have 100% hopes on his undertakings, locally and outside the country. Raila thinks very differently from his supporters. Right now, he has two options; he will keep his supporters talking regardless of the outcome. He recently said he has a place to call home if he loses. That shows he has a dual plan," Joakim said.
