Amid humidity, IMD forecasts heavy rainfall

Panaji: Goa continues to experience high humidity levels even as the southwest monsoon remains active across the state. On Monday, Panaji recorded a maximum temperature of 31.2°C, but residents felt far warmer, with the ‘feels like’ temperature soaring to 39.9°C due to stifling humidity levels that reached 82%.While light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places in Goa, the India meteorological department (IMD) has maintained a yellow alert till July 9, citing the likelihood of very heavy rainfall at isolated locations and heavy rainfall at a few places across the state.In addition to the rain, winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph, gusting up to 50kmph, are expected to sweep through the state over the next few days.

The IMD has advised caution for coastal and low-lying areas.Moderate to heavy spells of rain are very likely over the state, the IMD bulletin stated. The monsoon, currently normal over Goa, is expected to intensify mid-week, as the yellow alert warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places is in place till July 13.
