AMDA Emergency Relief #44: Crisis in Ukraine (11 June 2025) - Ukraine | ReliefWeb

Published 2 weeks ago2 minute read

Located in proximity to the Romanian border in western Ukraine, the City of Goodness is a medical organization that accommodates women and children fleeing war zones in the country’s eastern regions. AMDA has been extending support to the organization since August 2024.

Prior to the 2022 Ukraine humanitarian crisis, the City of Goodness was working to provide shelter for those who were escaping domestic violence or those without homes due to poverty. It wasn’t until the crisis occurred that it started accepting evacuees from the east.

Besides providing shelter and meals, the City of Goodness offers vocational training to those wishing to get a job.

The organization also works to secure a means of transportation for evacuees by collaborating with local authorities and other aid groups. Especially, it makes it a point to support the families whose members require medical care during transportation.

One notable venture of the City of Goodness is the Butterfly House, a children’s hospice that provides around-the-clock care for minors with complex medical conditions.

AMDA’s funds have primarily been used for food items and medicines needed at these facilities.

In appreciation for AMDA’s support, Ms. Marta Levchenko, the City of Goodness founder, sent the following message:

“Thank you so much for your invaluable support for Ukraine, for your crucial care for the seriously ill children in our hospice, “Butterfly House” at the City of Goodness shelter. Your assistance allows us to buy essential food and feed children affected by the war, who continue to lose their childhood every day. Your help is vital for children who so often have to hide in bomb shelters during nighttime attacks, shelling, and air raid sirens. Thank you, our friends from Japan, for feeling the pain of Ukrainian children with your hearts, for uniting and continuing to support the children’s shelter in Ukraine. Please stay with us because it is so important for us to know that even across the ocean, Ukraine has reliable friends who help us care for our children. Thank you, AMDA.”

To the best of its ability, AMDA will continue to support the City of Goodness.
