Liverpool FC Women interim manager Amber Whiteley reflects on the win at Crystal Palace and looks ahead to Sunday’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-final away at Arsenal.

We changed the system, it was a tight turnaround and we didn’t have a lot of time to work on it. The players had to take on a lot of information in training across Friday and Saturday, but I thought they implemented it so well last Sunday.

They gave a really strong and really controlled performance from start to finish, so I was delighted with them.

It was a great moment for Jasmine Matthews, who came back and got the winner. It’s brilliant to get Jas back and I thought she was absolutely brilliant with the ball at her feet. She was so composed and made a real difference to how we wanted to play.

It was a planned 45 minutes for her as we’ve got to manage her loading carefully, but we’ll keep topping her up and she should be available for more minutes this weekend.

It was also a special day for Ceri Holland, who made her 100th appearance for the club.

I was actually interim manager when Ceri made her debut in the snow away at Charlton Athletic, so it was an honour to be on the touchline to see her make her 100th appearance.

Ceri has been a key player for us throughout her time here and I still think there’s more to come from her as well, which is exciting.

We travel to face Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday (kick-off 2.30pm GMT at Meadow Park).

We’ll go there prepared, that’s for sure. We know it will be difficult but we will be ready and we will certainly give it a good go. We want to be on the front foot and aggressive in the moments we can be and also be difficult to break down.

I feel taking our chances could be crucial on the day. At Crystal Palace, if I could be critical of anything, I don’t think we took our chances in open play well enough and I thought we could have killed the game off in the first half.

When you don’t do that, the opposition are always going to come back and have a good go at you. There will be fewer opportunities on Sunday potentially, therefore we need to make those chances count when we do get them.

Finally, I would like to pay a special tribute to the staff who have helped me so much.

Honestly, I could not have done it without the staff. They have all been absolutely brilliant. We have all worked pretty much around the clock to get the work pulled together which we delivered to the players on Friday.

The way that all the staff have pulled together has been absolutely brilliant and I would not have been able to do it without them, so huge thanks to all the staff.

We’ve got a brilliant group, good people and really talented people as well.

Thank you for your continued support as always.
