Alicia Nimo: Man Requests Admin Role in Actress' Funeral WhatsApp Group, Cons Mourners

A man, believed to be part of a WhatsApp group created to coordinate funeral contributions, allegedly conned mourners out of KSh 6,000 by posing as an administrator of the group.

The situation took an unexpected turn when the suspect requested to be made an admin under the pretence of wanting to add more members to assist with contributions.

Once granted admin privileges, he demoted other admins.

He then edited the official fundraising message, replacing the legitimate paybill and phone number with his own.

By the time the fraudulent activity was discovered, the suspect had already received over KSh 6,000, according to several M-Pesa transaction messages shared by members who unknowingly sent their donations to the wrong number. saw some of these messages.

The incident threw the group into confusion, with many shocked by the audacity of someone using a funeral fundraiser to scam grieving individuals.

"What kind of person does this during mourning? It's heartbreaking," one group member lamented.

Some group members are now contemplating tracking the suspect and pressing legal charges, hoping to recover the lost funds and ensure justice is served.

Meanwhile, the memorial service for the late Alicia Nimo is scheduled for Thursday, April 24, at New Breed City Chapel in Thome, located opposite St Gabriel Catholic Church along the Northern Bypass.

Nimo, who was 25 years old, is fondly remembered for her talent and vibrant role on the popular Tahidi High TV show.

The family of Nimo, who passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 19, has officially announced details of her final send-off.

In a statement shared with on Tuesday, April 22, the family revealed that her burial will be held on Tuesday, April 29, in Kandara, a town located near Thika.

Nimo, who tragically collapsed at home and was later pronounced dead, is currently lying at the Kenyatta University Mortuary, where her body is being preserved ahead of the funeral.

The family, in collaboration with the burial committee, has appealed to well-wishers and the public at large for support to help them accord the late actress a dignified and respectful farewell.

Actor and filmmaker Tony Sherman, who mentored Nimo during her early days at Ebru TV, paid a heartfelt tribute, describing her as a gifted, energetic, and committed talent whose untimely demise was deeply painful and shocking.
