Misinformation spread countrywide that the family was yet to receive money from the head of state.
Claims that Mzee Opiyo had asked the president to remember his pledge also surfaced.
The family spokesperson and Ojwang's uncle, Kenneth Ouma, had earlier dismissed the rumours.
Mzee Opiyo, during a phone interview with Radio 47, confirmed that he had received the KSh 2 million.
He revealed that he received the money via Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga. He made sure that the money was sent to his grandson's account.
Ojwang's father said:
"It's not true that money went to my grandson's account directly. I sent it to his account the same day it was given to me. Governor Gladys Wanga brought the money, and the Equity Bank manager was present. He received the money and placed it into my grandson's account," he said.
Kenyans have been wondering if Ojwang's widow, and her son would receive any money. Mzee Opiyo has proven that he has his grandson's interests at heart.
Mzee Opiyo also revealed that his son's body would arrive at their home by July 3.
He dismissed claims that he would wait until justice was served for him to bury his son.
"His burial is on June 4 and his body will arrive on June 3," he said.
The family had estimated the burial budget to be at KSh 4.5 million.
