Akufo-Addo listened patiently to Kofi Buah during his last SONA, don't limit me - Afenyo-Markin tells Bagbin
Afeny-Markin recounted that when Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered his last SONA on January 3, 2023, he was patient to allow the Minority Whip Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to make all his sub9imissions.
To that end, he also urged Speaker Bagbin not to limit him.
The speaker had told Afenyo-Markin that he had one more minute to complete his submission. This was after Afenyo-Markin had spoken for some time in Parliament.
“Honourable Minority Leader, you have one more minute.”
In response, Afenyo-Markin said “Mr Speaker, when Akufo-Addo was here on his last SONA Akufo-Addo, had the patience for Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to speak, there must be patience for the Minority side, I cannot be limited.”
But when his one minute was due, the Speaker interjected and moved on with proceedings.
Prior to this, Afenyo-Markin told President John Dramani Mahama that at the time that he was complaining about rising youth unemployment, his administration, in less than one hundred days, had sacked a lot of youth who were employed by the previous administration.
He said “he is telling us today that we have 2.2million youths unemployed but what he has forgotten is that in his administration, in less than 100 days all we know is sack them, and dismissals, On the streets of Accra today, the youth of the country are saying Maham baako termination bebreebeee [To wit: With Just Mahama, we have a lot of termination of appointments].”
During the SONA, President John Dramani Mahama said that youth unemployment is the biggest challenge facing Ghana.
He notes that youth unemployment threatens national security. To that end, he said, he has set up the Ministry of Youth Development to address the concerns of youth unemployment.
The President he said “The youth unemployment has led to despair and frustration. This poses a major security risk to our country and requires urgent attention.”
In other matters, President Mahama urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their Minority in Parliament not to boycott the upcoming national economic forum as they did during the Senchi Forum.
Delivering his maiden State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, he said he seeks to bring everyone on board to build the country.
“I am confident that the sacrifice we have all made this year will benefit our county going into the future,” he said.
“Together we shall build the Ghana we all want,” he stressed.
