AJ Dybantsa no longer No. 1 player in the nation
Five-star BYU commit AJ Dybantsa has been the top player in the nation for 2025 over the past 18 months. However, his reign officially came to an end on Wednesday.
A shake-up at the top of the men's basketball 2025 recruiting class puts Kansas five-star commit Darryn Peterson as the new No. 1. The future Jayhawk leaps over Dybantsa in a terrible look for 247Sports to close out the season.
"While a full, final update will arrive in May as it always does. 247Sports could wait no longer in minting Darryn Peterson, a Kansas signee, as the new No. 1 player," 247Sports director of scouting Adam finkelstein wrote. He cited the McDonald's All-American Game as the turnover moment from Dybantsa to Peterson.
While the future BYU big man showed off his skills in the game and took flight over Angel Reese for an incredible dunk, Peterson was named co-MVP of the event.
Ironically, Peterson is a product of Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif., which also had 2026 No. 1 Tyran Stokes before he left for Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. Stokes was an AAU teammate of Dybantsa and has been linked to BYU.
Dybantsa is projected as the top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. The Utah Prep recruit has already announced his intention to be one-and-done in Provo next season.
