The Organizers of the Africa Infrastructure and Climate Change Summit (AICIS) 2025 have said the summit earlier billed for June will now hold from August 11th to 14th, 2025 I. Abuja as they seek the support of the international community and stakeholders for the success of the summit designed to drive Africa’s sustainable development vision via climate change smart solutions.

This was revealed on Monday at the press briefing.

The Special Guest of Honour at the event and Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume while commending the Africa Business Ventures and Investment Group (ABVIG) for initiating the summit in collaboration with the Office of the SGF, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Women Affairs, and other strategic partners, described the Summit as “timely and visionary,”

He stressed the urgent need for Africa to take ownership of its development path in the face of global climate challenges.

Akume, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office (OSGF), Engr. Nadungu Gagare, said; “As the world intensifies efforts to tackle climate change and infrastructure gaps, Africa must not remain a passive recipient of foreign solutions.

“We must emerge as architects of our own sustainable development,” he said.

He said the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, has placed strong emphasis on strategic infrastructure development, energy transition, environmental sustainability, and inclusive economic growth—all of which align with the Summit’s goals.

“Today’s engagement is a clarion call to governments, the private sector, development partners, and the diplomatic community to align efforts, pool resources, and harmonize policies.”

Commending the emphasis on gender inclusion, he said that that no transformative agenda can be achieved without empowering women and integrating their voices into climate and development solutions.

Giving in sight into the summit, the Chairman of the AICIS 2025 Planning Committee, Hon. Moses Owharo, maintained that the engagement is a landmark moment that solidifies Africa’s collective resolve to address climate change through bankable investments and resilient infrastructure.

“The AICIS 2025, to be hosted in Abuja, will bring together governments, development finance institutions, private sector investors, civil society, and the diplomatic corps.

“It is not just a summit—it is a movement toward Africa’s climate-secure future,” he stated

He pointed out that the engagement will serve three core objectives, including:

“To brief both local and international media on the aims and expected impact of AICIS 2025;

“To mobilize multilateral and bilateral support for broad-based participation;

“To reinforce stakeholder alignment around the Summit’s four key pillars: Green Infrastructure, Climate Resilience, Gender Inclusion, and Bankable Investment Partnerships.”

He recalled President Tinubu’s speech at COP28, reaffirming Nigeria’s stance that “Africa must not only participate in the global climate discourse, but lead with urgency, innovation, and collaboration.”
