AI-Travel Planner: Here's What It Created For a Weekend Adventure in Providence, RI
Some people are afraid of technology, while others embrace it. I get it—technological changes move at such a fast clip these days that it's hard to learn and adapt. I happen to embrace technology just as long as it makes my life a bit easier, and learning about something like AI makes me less apprehensive to use it. Did you know that Only In Your State has its own AI-Travel Planner? I took it for a test run to see what it would come up with for a weekend itinerary in Providence, and I will share the results and my thoughts on the tool below.
I am delighted to say that this travel planner is very easy to use. Just enter your desired destination, how long of a stay, along with the month, who you're going with (solo, family, friends, or your partner), and any interests. Once you're finished, this AI tool populates an itinerary compatible with your stay's length. It's fascinating to see what it comes up with. Here are the results for "A Romantic Weekend in Providence: Dining, Exploring, and Relaxing" based on my answers:
The AI-Travel Planner happened to pick two of my favorite places in Providence: Roger Williams National Memorial and Waterplace Park. Located between Canal and E. Main Streets, Roger Williams National Memorial is one of three National Park Service sites in RI, and is a tiny but beautiful 4.5 acres. In the heart of Providence, this urban park is a little oasis that pays homage to the state's founding father, Roger Williams.
Another picturesque urban park, Waterplace Park, is set along the Woonasquatucket River. The surrounding area offers pedestrian walkways on either side. Footbridges connect the two sides of the river. Over the years, this park has become famous for watching Waterfire, a series of brazier sculptures loaded with wood and set on fire along the river at night. This is one of my favorite Rhode Island events, especially in the summer. 2025 marks Waterfire's 30th Anniversary.
Growing up in Rhode Island, there was no shortage of fabulous restaurants, especially in Providence. Over the years, I found myself visiting the same beloved places, and it's often hard to try somewhere different. Among my favorites are the Cav, Pastiche, Jacky's Waterplace, and Capriccio, but I know that there is so much more to discover!
The AI-Travel tool gave me some interesting suggestions, ones that I may never have considered. There's Ellie’s, a Parisian-style bakery open for breakfast and lunch. Small Point Café seems like another solid option and a lovely spot for a cappuccino and a sandwich or avocado toast. For dinner, sharing Neopolitan-style pizza and a few appetizers with my partner at Figidini seems like a great option.
The Dean Hotel is located downtown and is within walking distance of restaurants, galleries, museums, and the city's colleges. This boutique hotel has 52 rooms ranging from bunkbed accommodations to suites. On-site is a karaoke lounge called The Boombox and The Dean Bar for cocktails and light snacks. This seems like a quirky and unique place to stay and an overall solid option in Providence. Would I stay here? Of course!
I grew up in Rhode Island, so I spent a lot of time exploring our capital city while trying many of its restaurants, bakeries, and pastry shops along the way. I was happy that the AI-Travel Planner suggested bakeries and restaurants I hadn't visited. I have new places to try next time I visit family in town, which is an exciting prospect. This travel tool did a great job suggesting new-to-me places and gave an overall exciting overview of Providence for a romantic weekend getaway. And, yes, I would use it again.
