AFIA receives USDA funds to boost animal food exports to Vietnam

(AFIA) has secured $242,600 in funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Emerging Markets Program (EMP) to further expand animal food exports to Vietnam, a fast-growing market for U.S. producers.

“We appreciate the continued support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the Emerging Markets Program,” said AFIA president and CEO Constance Cullman. “This partnership enables us to expand opportunities for U.S. animal food products in promising global markets, fostering long-term growth for our industry and reinforcing the value of American agriculture on the world stage.”

Vietnam’s imports of U.S. animal food have grown significantly since AFIA launched its market development work there in 2021. Exports rose from $1.6 million in 2021 to $2.8 million in 2024 — a 40% increase in the past year alone.

“Exports drive growth for American animal food manufacturers and that growth extends beyond individual companies,” Cullman said. “The animal food sector plays a vital role in supporting U.S. jobs and strengthening our economy. We look forward to USDA’s continued support in expanding opportunities abroad and hope AFIA members will continue to leverage the valuable market access we have helped secure.”

The USDA’s EMP supports technical assistance activities including feasibility studies, market research, training and business workshops. AFIA will apply the new funding toward efforts such as its upcoming trade mission to Vietnam, scheduled for October 20–23, 2025. Participants will meet with local buyers and tour facilities to assess demand and strengthen trade relationships.
