Adamawa Government Initiatives: Recruitment and Addressing Salary Gaps

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has established a joint committee to address the exclusion of 11 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) from a recent wage increment scheme, aiming to ensure affected workers benefit from the improved salary structure. Chaired by the Head of Civil Service, Pharmacist Shehu Isa, the committee will engage with stakeholders to resolve issues affecting employees and develop strategies for enhancing their welfare. Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, representing Governor Fintiri at the Workers’ Day celebration in Yola, reiterated the administration’s commitment to timely salary payments and fostering capacity building.

Professor Farauta commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for its advocacy and emphasized the administration's dedication to valuing, respecting, and empowering workers. NLC State Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, criticized the rising cost of electricity and voiced concerns over the exclusion of key MDAs—including the Bureau of Public Procurement, the Offices of the Accountant-General and Auditor-General, as well as the judiciary and legislature—from the new wage structure due to statutory limitations. The celebration featured a march-past and commemorative gifts for outstanding participants.

In a separate development, Governor Fintiri has approved the opening of a recruitment portal for the employment of 4,000 individuals into the state’s civil service. The recruitment drive, aimed at filling vacancies across various MDAs, will commence at midnight on Tuesday, April 29, and run through May 12, 2025. Applicants must possess relevant qualifications and present original credentials at the interview venue. Candidates from the previously canceled interview are encouraged to reapply.

Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for citizens, particularly the youth, through job creation and sustainable economic growth. The Adamawa State Civil Service Commission has committed to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process, ensuring a level playing field for all applicants. The Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Mayiha, reported over 20,000 applications within the first 24 hours and systems were upgraded to manage the volume. The application window will remain open for two weeks, with successful candidates shortlisted for interviews and documentation.
