Acer Enters the AI Wearables Arena
At Computex 2025, Acer unveiled its move into the wearable tech space with a pair of AI-enabled earbuds and a new health-focused smart ring — both developed by its lifestyle tech division, Acer Gear.
The Acer AI TransBuds are designed to handle real-time translation across up to 15 different languages. What sets them apart is their ability to manage two-way voice translation, even if only one person in the conversation is wearing the device. While Acer hasn’t revealed the underlying AI software powering the earbuds, the design features dual microphones, likely to pick up both sides of a conversation for instant audio translation.
According to Acer, the TransBuds are ideal for casual chats, meetings, online learning, or livestreams. In addition to voice translation, they also offer live captioning and transcription, allowing users to review conversations afterward.
However, these earbuds aren’t completely standalone. They require a connection to a smartphone or tablet using a plug-in receiver to handle the translation processing, raising questions about the AI tools involved.
The second device, the Acer FreeSense Ring, enters the growing smart ring market. Built with an ultra-light titanium alloy, the ring is designed for wellness tracking. It monitors heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels, and sleep patterns, feeding the data into a mobile companion app that offers personalized health insights.
One standout feature is the lack of paywalls — users can access all health data and insights without paying subscription fees, making the FreeSense Ring a more affordable wellness option compared to some competitors.
These new gadgets come from Acer Gear, a company division that’s branching out into non-traditional markets for the PC brand — including e-bikes, scooters, and travel gear.
Pricing and release dates for the TransBuds and FreeSense Ring haven’t been announced yet, but both are expected to be on display throughout the Computex event.
