The Abia State Government has announced the postponement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled visit and the inaguration of the 6.7-kilometre Port Harcourt Road in Aba, initially planned for Friday, May 23, 2025.

Also postponed is the flag-off ceremony of the Abia Medical City project, which was expected to be performed by the President during the visit.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, made the announcement during a media briefing on Tuesday in Umuahia, the state capital.

According to Kanu, the President’s visit was postponed due to his tight schedule, and a new date has been fixed for June.

“President Tinubu was billed to inaugurate the Port Harcourt Road in Aba and perform the flag-off of the Abia Medical City project. However, due to his busy schedule, the event has been rescheduled for next month,” he said.

Despite the postponement, Kanu disclosed that residents of Aba would hold a carnival on Wednesday, May 21, to celebrate the developmental projects in the city under the administration of Governor Alex Otti.

He clarified that the carnival is not government-sponsored.

“This event, initiated by the people of Aba, has nothing to do with the government. The state is not spending a dime on it. It is a huge testament to the appreciation of Governor Otti’s transformative efforts in Aba,” Kanu stated.
