Aaron Taylor-Johnson's James Bond Chances Get Boost With Omega Watch Deal

Published 1 day ago5 minute read

James Bond odds are more volatile than a rogue agent in the field, and the reason for certain stars becoming a new “favorite” get more and more outlandish and speculative the longer the search for Daniel Craig’s successor in the role goes on. While Richard Madden has once again leaped up in betting odds, it seems that another “favorite” for the role has been boosting his chances – according to some – in a different way to simply giving cryptic answers on red carpets or having his odds slashed. Yes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is once again on everyone’s lips to have secretly become the new Bond already after signing a deal with the franchise’s official watchmakers, Omega.

Yes folks, that is where we are now at when it comes to the casting of the next 007. If anyone so much as wipes their nose on a brand of tissue that was once used by the previous iteration of the character to clean their unmentionables, then they are instantly elevated to the next level of “guaranteed casting” status. Until Henry Cavill’s name is mentioned, and then it doesn’t really matter, and everyone returns to the start line again.

Among the many hopefuls lining up to be potentially cast as the next James Bond, Aaron Taylor Johnson’s name has been banded around more often than most. What is more is that his name constantly seems to be the one that returns to "the favorite" position whenever some relatively unknown name is thrown in the hat to temporarily catch a bit of buzz.

Taylor-Johnson has certainly fended off his fair share of interrogations about possibly taking on the role, and recently told Esquire, “It’s really not for me to say anything,” when asked whether he was ready to slip on a tuxedo. But it seems that accepting the role of Omega brand ambassador is something that people take to be a huge hint of the truth about his Bond chances – or it could just be a coincidental part of a lucrative deal. Speaking about the collaboration, Taylor-Johnson said:

“I have always had an appreciation for timepieces but especially for Omega. Now after visiting the factory, I am in awe of the skill required to manufacture such a luxurious product.”

Omega has been providing watches for James Bond movies since Pierce Brosnan stepped into the role in GoldenEye, so it would seem likely that their association with the franchise will continue into the new era of Bond films. So, is this the final piece of the puzzle that seals the deal on who will be playing the next James Bond? You will have to watch this space to find out, but currently there are several actors “out in front” when it comes to the odds being provided by betmakers. Naturally, though, those odds usually have very little basis other than public opinion, and we all know that can sometimes be very off the mark. Taylor-Johnson’s chances of becoming James Bond are similar to those of Cavill, James Norton, Jack Lowden, and Theo James. In truth though, the role could be anyone's, and no one will know until they are supposed to.

James Bond

James Bond, code name 007, is a fictional character created in 1953 by writer Ian Fleming, who featured him in twelve novels and two short story collections. There have been six other authors who wrote authorised Bond novels or novelizations after Fleming's death in 1964: Kingsley Amis, Christopher Wood, John Gardner, Raymond Benson, Sebastian Faulks and Jeffery Deaver; a new novel, written by William Boyd, is planned for release in 2013. Additionally, Charlie Higson wrote a series on a young James Bond and Kate Westbrook wrote three novels based on the diaries of a recurring series character, Moneypenny. The fictional British Secret Service agent has also been adapted for television, radio, comic strip and video game formats as well as being used in the longest running and the second-highest grossing film franchise to date, which started in 1962 with Dr. No, starring Sean Connery as Bond. As of 2012, there have been twenty two films in the Eon Productions series, with a twenty third, Skyfall, due for release on 26 October 2012. The film will star Daniel Craig in his third portrayal of Bond: he is the sixth actor to play Bond in the Eon series. There have also been two independent productions of Bond films, Casino Royale, a 1967 spoof, and Never Say Never Again, a 1983 remake of an earlier Eon-produced film, Thunderball. The films are renowned for a number of features, including the musical accompaniment, with the theme songs to the films having picked up Academy Award nominations on several occasions. Other important elements which run through most of the films include Bond's cars, his guns and the gadgets he is supplied with by Q Branch.
